I am currently a BEd student at UNBC and I just started the program this month. I am looking forward to learn, make connections and enjoy this program. In my free time, I like to listen to music. What I would like to do more in the future is travel. Something about me is that I like to learn and teach French. In BC, one has to learn a second language and the language that I am passionate about teaching is French. I am going into teaching because it feels fulfilling when you are able to make someone understand something.
Although this goal right now is beyond my reach, I may consider becoming a French teacher in the future. I feel like with the ways I have taught myself over the years to make the language easy for me, I would be able to teach the kids. The next thing I might do after a couple of years in the field of Education teaching is to do a Master’s Degree. Actually I am trying to choose between whether I want to be a French teacher or go into becoming a school counsellor. Both seem appealing to me. I am passionate about French, yet I believe that I want to be a school counsellor because I think I have patience and I am good a making people feel better about themselves. I would probably do an MEd in Counselling. Although I don’t know French very well, I want to learn and get good at it to maybe about a B2 level on the DELF exam.
A couple months ago, I was really surprised about what I was able to accomplish after learning French on Duolingo for three months. I was able to write at about myself at an A1-A2 level. There were some mistakes but I felt like I made a huge accomplishment. If I could figure out what worked for me, I could make the kids understand but still try and figure out different things for different people.
I could always do some sort of a combination of both teaching French and being a counsellor. For example, I could teach French for summer school but still be a counsellor during the year. Sometimes you just don’t know what will turn out to be until the future happens.
